Please join us as we welcome Rev. Evelyn Vigil as our guest preacher this Sunday.

For the past 13 years, the Rev. Evelyn Vigil has served as the facility chaplain for the Main Jail of Santa Clara County, located in San Jose, CA.  She serves a population of approximately 1,400 men. The jail, one of three for adults in the county, holds the maximum-security population, and includes a psychiatric unit, a hospital unit, and a special-housing unit for handicapped inmates.

In addition to working with a diverse population behind bars, Evelyn also works with the diverse religious groups of the Bay Area. Inmates come from a variety of religious backgrounds. In the jail, they are served by volunteer chaplains from many traditions, including non-traditional Christian volunteers, Muslim and Jewish volunteers as well as pagan and Buddhist volunteers trained and supervised by Rev. Vigil.  In fact, to start the year, she organized a group of Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Christian volunteers to offer an interfaith service for peace.
